The Participation Table presents the total number of survey respondents included in the data analyses. Given the voluntary nature and time constraints of the survey, some participants do not complete all the questions. As a result, the actual number of participants who provided a response to any particular item, scale, or crosstab combination may differ from the total participation numbers provided in the table. Thus, when using crosstabs, you need to cross the item of interest with Grade to get accurate state or county-level estimates for 6th, 8th and 11th grades.

Three versions of the survey were used, one for 6th grade, 8th grade and another for the 11th grade. The 8th grade survey consisted of a subset of the questions found on the 11th grade version. The 6th grade survey also consisted of a subset of the 11th grade survey and contained a group of questions unique to the 6th grade version.
